Asia Centre and Oxfam in Asia is inviting applications for Oxfam young leaders fellowship program 2024. The applications are open to the participants of countries where Oxfam is working actively, especially in Asia. As many parts of Asia are facing big problems with development. People are having less say in how things are run, which makes it harder to make things fair for everyone, especially regarding things like gender rights and climate change. This is happening while some governments are becoming more controlling.

With democracies shrinking and human rights taking a hit, it’s really important to help the next group of leaders be caring and strong. That’s why Oxfam in Asia and Asia Centre are excited to start the 2nd Oxfam Young Leaders Fellowship Program in Asia. This program wants to help young leaders learn how to make their communities better. They’ll get to learn from mentors and practice making positive changes firsthand. It’s a big chance for them to grow and keep making the world a better place.

Benefits of the Oxfam young leaders fellowship program 

Get ready for some amazing chances to learn and grow internationally! Here’s what you can expect from the fellowship:

  • Oxfam young leaders fellows will receive a monthly stipend of USD 400 for 9 months, totaling USD 3600. That’s paid every 3 months.
  • Get to be mentored by experienced professionals from around the world, learning from the best in various fields.
  • You’ll have the chance to work closely with leadership teams from Oxfam in Asia and Asia Centre, gaining valuable insights from different regions.
  • The mentors will support you in organizing smaller networks to make a real impact through influencing and campaigning.
  • Finally, you’ll dive deep into the world of international development, gaining valuable understanding and insights along the way.

Eligibility Criteria 

To apply for Oxfam young leaders program as a young fellow, you must fulfill the following criteria below,

  • You should be 27 years old or younger.
  •  Must be a citizen of one of these countries: Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Timor-Leste, or Vietnam.
  • Must be driven and creative in making positive social change happen and keep it going.
  • It’s important that you’re comfortable using digital tools and other resources for advocacy.
  • Having a good grasp of English, both written and spoken, is essential.
  •  Women are encouraged and those from minority communities to apply.
  • You shouldn’t be currently employed or planning to take on full-time work during the fellowship.
  • And lastly, you should have an interest in contributing to the following thematic areas:

What to expect from fellowship?

Here’s what to expect Oxfam young leaders fellowship:

  • Commit to spending 30-40 hours per week working on the activities you’ve planned with your mentors for the entire 9-month duration.
  • Attend an in-person induction workshop in Bangkok, Thailand, to kickstart the fellowship.
  • Build and nurture a network of at least 50 young individuals.
  • Join monthly online meetings to update mentors on your progress and discuss any challenges you’re facing.
  • Take on leadership roles and actively participate in various activities throughout the fellowship, including the induction workshop, monthly meetings, and end-of-project gathering.
  • Help develop content for the “Civic-Asia” website, contributing your insights and experiences.
  • Wrap up the fellowship by attending an end-of-project gathering, either online or in person (depending on the circumstances).

How to Apply for Oxfam Fellowship ?

To apply for the program, here’s what you need to do:

  • Fill out the Google Form with your CV, a cover letter specifying your areas of interest, and a motivation letter explaining why you’re interested in those thematic areas. Include details about your past work, academic background, career goals, and what you hope to achieve from the fellowship.
  • You’ll also need to arrange for two recommendation letters from individuals who can speak to your skills, achievements, and professionalism.
  • If you’re short-listed, you’ll be interviewed by a panel of judges who will use specific criteria to select eight Young Fellows for the program.
  • As part of the selection process, you’ll be given a written exercise to further demonstrate your commitment to the program.
