The Leadership for Africa (LfA) Programme
The Leadership for Africa (LfA) programme is an initiative by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). It offers fully funded scholarships to talented African graduates and recognized refugees for Master’s studies in Germany.
The goal is to empower young leaders with the education and resources they need to drive positive change in their communities.
Who Can Apply?
The scholarship is open to two categories of applicants:
1. Refugees
Eligible candidates under this category must:
- Hold recognized refugee status granted before April 2, 2024.
- Be currently residing in Cameroon, Senegal, or Togo.
- Have completed a Bachelor’s degree at the time of application.
- Maintain valid refugee status through April 2026.
2. National Graduates
Eligible national applicants must:
- Be citizens and current residents of Cameroon, Senegal, or Togo.
- Hold a completed Bachelor’s degree.
Note: Graduates in Medicine can only apply for Master’s programs in Public Health or Biomedical Sciences. Degrees in clinical or artistic fields (e.g., Law, Medicine, Architecture) are not eligible.
DAAD Leadership for Africa Master’s scholarship Benefits
The DAAD Leadership for Africa Master’s Scholarship 2026 provides comprehensive financial and academic support, including:
- Up to 6 months of German language training in Germany
- Full tuition fees for a Master’s degree at a public or state-recognized German university
- Monthly living allowance of €992
- Travel and annual study allowance
- Health, accident, and personal liability insurance
- Additional rent subsidy and family allowance (if applicable)
Duration of the Support
- Language Training: Begins around April 2026
- Master’s Degree: Starts in October 2026 and runs for two years
Documents Requirement
To apply, you need to submit the following:
Mandatory Documents
- Completed DAAD Online Application Form
- Curriculum Vitae (max 3 pages)
- Motivation Letter (1–3 pages)
- Course Profile Form listing 3 tuition-free Master’s programmes
- Language Proficiency Certificates (TOEFL, IELTS, DSH, or TestDaF)
- Copy of Bachelor’s degree and academic transcripts
- Valid passport or national ID
- Proof of refugee status (for refugee applicants)
Optional
- Letters of recommendation
- Internship or employment certificates
- Proof of previous scholarships or awards
Application deadline
The last date to apply for the scholarship is June 10,2025.

How to Submit Your Application via the DAAD Portal (Simplified Steps)
1. Check Technical Requirements
- Use a desktop/laptop (Windows or Mac OS only).
- Recommended browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer, or EDGE.
- Mobile devices are not supported.
2. Select a Funding Programme
- Visit www.funding-guide.de.
- Choose your desired scholarship/funding programme.
- Click on the “Submitting an application” tab and go to the DAAD Portal.
- If new, register at www.mydaad.de.
- Log in and click “Application” under “Personal Funding”.
3. Fill Out the Application Form
- Click “Continue” to start.
- Step 1: Download the application form (PDF).
- Fill it offline using Adobe Reader (not browser PDF viewers).
- Step 2: Upload the filled form back to the portal.
- Step 3: The system checks for missing mandatory fields.
- If there are errors, download the current version, correct it, and re-upload.
4. Upload Attachments
- Only PDF files are allowed.
- Make sure documents aren’t encrypted or restricted.
- Select attachment type → Browse file → Name it → Click “Add Document”.
- Upload all required documents to enable the “Continue” button.
5. Submit Your Application
- Review your form and attachments.
- Check if your program also needs postal submission (see program info).
- Agree to the requirements and data protection terms.
- Click “Send Documents” to submit.
6. After Submission
- You’ll receive a confirmation message and email.
- Check your “Application and Funding Overview” for status updates.
- Use the message area to read DAAD communication.
- Keep an eye on emails for any follow-up from DAAD.
