Australia Awards for Sri Lanka 2024

Australia Awards for Sri Lank is accepting applications for Master level both for course or research. The scholarship requires the applicant to have work experience of at least 3 years form public sector , private sector or civil society organizations. 

The applications are evaluated based on academic competences, potential outcomes, professional and personal leaderships and relevant work experience. The program is for all Sri Lanka’s, However,the program encourages women, people having disability, and those working in priority and disability sectors including:

Ampara, Jaffna, Polonnaruwa, Puttalam, Ratnapura, Batticaloa, Kilinochchi, Vavuniya, Badulla, Trincomalee, Mullaitivu, Anuradhapura, Monaragala, Nuwera Eliya.

Benefits of the scholarship program 

The scholarship is fully funded and cover all the expenses from pre-departure training to the completion of the degree program. The expenses includes:

  • Return air tickets
  • Full tuition fee 
  • Monthly allowance for living expenses
  • One time establishment allowance

  • Fieldwork expenses 
  • Supplementary academic support 

Eligibility Requirements for Sri Lanka 

Besides, the General requirements of the Program which you can read in Australia Awards 2024, country specific requirements are below, 

  • They must have a valid English language test score on 1 January 2025 as per the Australia Awards Scholarships Policy Handbook. Applicants working in priority districts, disability sector or having a disability can apply with an IELTS score of at least 6.0 (or equivalent) but must achieve an IELTS score of 6.5 (or equivalent) before starting their studies.
  • They must have at least 3 years of relevant work experience after completing a tertiary degree equivalent to an Australian Bachelor’s degree. Public sector applicants must also be confirmed in their current positions.
  • They must have a relevant academic or professional background for their proposed study program.
  • Special Conditions
  • Public sector awardees must submit their official leave approval document to the Australia Awards office before departure.
  • Awardees must return to Sri Lanka for at least two years after completing their scholarship and contribute to the country’s development. Otherwise, they will have to repay the Commonwealth of Australia for the scholarship value.
  • Awardees must sign a contract with the Commonwealth of Australia

Documents requirements 

Following documents are required for the Award:

  • Tertiary Degree Certificates 
  • Academic grades for University Qualifications 
  • Passport/National ID/Driving License 
  • Curriculum Vitae 
  • Development Impact Plan (DIP) document*
  • Certificates of special achievement or merit
  • English language test (IELTS, TOEFL or PTE) results certificate valid at 1 January 2025 
  • Employment Letter
  • COURSEWORK MASTER APPLICANTS: One academic referee report
  • and one professional referee report (e.g. a work supervisor with referee’s
  • seal)*
  • RESEARCH MASTER APPLICANTS: two academic referee reports and one professional referee report (e.g. a work supervisor with referee’s seal)*
  • RESEARCH MASTER APPLICANTS: a research proposal. This proposal must include a proposed methodology, timeline, and a brief literature review 
  • RESEARCH MASTER APPLICANTS: Identify 2 supervisors from each of your nominated institutions and include details with your application
  • Any other document you wish to upload ensuring your eligibility

The deadline for the Australia Awards scholarship is 30 April 2024 (11:59PM AEST).
