ICRC – the International Committee of the Red Cross has announced ‘’The citizen Storyteller award 2024. The NGO is accepting video entries from citizen journalists from Pakistan. The theme of these stories would be around people affected by Humanitarian emergencies.
If you’re a good storyteller, and want to present to the world the story of anyone affected by the humanitarian emergency, start preparing for it. You may already have your story, or you have to cover the story by visiting some places. So get your gears ready, and do not miss this chance to make an impact through your storytelling skill.
What’s for you in the competition?
The first reward for you would be the recognition of your work and a platform to give a voice to the affected people. However, you will get a financial reward, if you make a place among top three story tellers:
- The first prize is PKR 150,000
- The second prize is PKR 130,000
- The third prize is PKR 100,000
Themes for the competition
We welcome video-based entries on any one of the following topics:
- Climate crisis in Pakistan: Impact on vulnerable communities
- The power of volunteerism in disasters
- Healing Pakistan: Unveiling primary health-care challenges
Eligibility Criteria for the competition
If you are looking forward to apply for the competition, you must follow the guidelines below,
- Must be pakistani citizen
- Should be 18 years or older and hold a valid CNIC at the time of applying
- Video must be 5-8 minutes long
- Must be original video and must not be published on any platform or any other third party television or social media platform
- For the competition, videos must be filmed in the standard widescreen format with a 16:9 aspect ratio.
- Submissions should address urgent humanitarian issues such as natural disasters, armed conflicts, health crises, and the plight of refugees.
- They should reflect the utmost levels of journalistic professionalism, presenting stories with precision and following ethical standards.
- Contributors are welcome to submit multiple pieces, either in English or Urdu. Urdu submissions should include English subtitles to ensure accessibility.
- It is imperative that the content respects all cultures, religions, sexual orientations, communities, and genders without bias.

The last date to submit your video story is 1 July, 2024.
How to apply for the competition ?
The application is online. The participants can submit their application through Google Form. The form is given on the official page. The form is simple, and contains a few relevant questions and a short summary about the video.
Since it’s a google form, and you can not directly upload your video. Therefore, share a Google Drive or similar link with open permission to view the content. The link should not have an expiration date.
You must have an active email Id to enter the competition. If you want to be the voice of these people, and have passion for storytelling, you must enter the competition.
