Before applying for the MSc Environmental Governance (MEG) at the University of Freiburg with the DAAD/EPOS Scholarship, it is important to check the academic and language qualifications required by the program itself.

General Application Requirements

To be eligible for admission to the MEG program, you must hold a Bachelor’s degree (BSc or BA or equivalent) with a grade well above average in environmental management, environmental sciences, agricultural or forest sciences, geography, political sciences, sociology, law, economics, ethnology, international cooperation, development studies, nature conservation, land use planning, natural resource management, or other relevant disciplines.

Your final GPA from your undergraduate degree must be equivalent to a minimum of 2.5 or better under the German grading system (where 1.0 = best and 4.0 = pass).

Grade Conversion: The University uses the Bayerische Formel to convert international grades into the German system. Be sure to check or calculate your grade equivalency before applying.

Since the MEG program is taught entirely in English, you must provide proof of C1-level English proficiency according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Only the following certificates are accepted: TOEFL iBT with a minimum score of 95, IELTS Academic with a minimum band of 7.0, Cambridge English Certificates (CAE or CEP), and Pearson Academic (PTE Academic) with a minimum score of 76.

Other English language certificates (e.g., Duolingo, institutional letters) are not accepted.

  2. Curriculum Vitae (using the Europass format)
