The English Language Teaching Scholarship Program 2024/2025 is accepting applications. The scholarship is awarded by Hornby Trust. This fully funded scholarship is for low and middle income countries. The Scholarship is for teachers and other related professionals to have Master degree in teaching English Language. The teachers or either the professional applying must prove experience and show that they can make an impact in the field of English language teaching.
To avail this scholarship, you must fulfill Exeter’s admission criteria for the Med TESOL program. The program is for September 2024. The scholarship is available to the students with strong academic background and experience in the field of teaching. Total number scholarship for the program is 10.

Eligibility Criteria for the scholarship
You must have citizenship or work in low or middle income country given in the list (OECD DAC)
Minimum three years of full time TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) teaching or related experience
Must have undergraduate degree (equivalent to UK upper 2nd class honours or higher or relevant postgraduate degree
You must have applied for normal postgraduate application to the University of Exeter for the MEd TESOL program
Entry Requirements for the TESOL Programme:
- 2:1 Honours degree (or equivalent) in language- or education-related disciplines: This is the preferred qualification, but exceptions are considered for:
- 2:2 Honours degree with 53% or above: Strong academic performance can compensate for a slightly lower degree classification.
- Equivalent academic background: Relevant qualifications from other fields will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
- Relevant teaching experience: Demonstrated experience can be a valuable asset for applicants from diverse backgrounds.
Entry Requirements for International Students:
Accepted English language tests (valid for 2 years prior to program start):
- IELTS, IELTS Online, IELTS Indicator:
- Required score: 6.5 overall
- Minimum subscores: 6 in each section
- TOEFL iBT, TOEFL iBT Home Edition, TOEFL iBT Paper Edition:
- Required score: 90
- Minimum subscores: 21 in writing, listening, reading, and speaking
- MyBest scores are not accepted
- Pearson Test of English (Academic) PTE:
- Required score: 67
- Minimum subscores: 64 in all communicative skills
- LanguageCert International ESOL SELT:
- Required level: B2 Communicator
- Minimum subscores: 39 in speaking, writing, listening, reading
- INTO Pre-sessional English:
- Required score: 65
- Minimum subscores: 60 in each subsection
- Study Group Academic English:
- Required score: 70% overall
- Minimum subscores: 60% in each subskill

- Required level: B2 Pass with Merit

How to Apply for the Scholarship and Admission ?
First apply for the admission to University of Exeter for the program MEd TESOL. Once you receive the student number from the University of Exeter, you can then apply for the scholarship. Remember, to apply for the scholarship you must have your student number. Without a student number you can not apply for the scholarship.
