The 2025 Covering Climate Now (CCNow) Journalism Awards are officially open for submissions, celebrating the finest climate journalism from across the globe. As the world faces escalating climate challenges, these awards aim to honor journalists who play a pivotal role in reporting, analyzing, and bringing awareness to climate issues.
A Global Recognition of Climate Journalism
Now in its fifth year, the CCNow Journalism Awards have consistently recognized excellence in climate reporting. The 2024 awards saw over 1,250 entries from journalists worldwide, showcasing an impressive range of work from major media houses and independent journalists alike.
For 2025, CCNow aims to continue this tradition by awarding outstanding climate journalism published or broadcast anytime in 2024. The competition is open to journalists from all backgrounds, with no entry fee required. Entries will be accepted through Monday, March 31, 2025, at 11:59 PM US Eastern Time.
Award Categories and Special Recognitions
This year’s awards will feature 16 categories, comprising 14 subject-based categories and additional special recognitions, focusing on critical aspects of climate reporting, including:
- Climate Solutions: Highlighting innovative responses to climate challenges that inspire action.
- Climate Justice: Showcasing stories on how climate change disproportionately affects marginalized communities.
- Health & Climate: Exploring the intersection of climate change and public health.
- Investigative Journalism: Recognizing in-depth and groundbreaking climate investigations.
- Policy & Governance: Examining the role of governments, institutions, and policies in climate action.
- Science Reporting: Featuring accurate and compelling climate science journalism.
In addition to these categories, CCNow is introducing new and expanded recognitions:
- Large Projects & Collaborations: Honoring joint reporting efforts that have made a substantial impact.
- Emerging Journalists of the Year: Recognizing early-career journalists whose work demonstrates exceptional promise.
- Journalists of the Year: For the first time, CCNow is accepting public entries for this award, given to three journalists who demonstrate exemplary commitment to the climate story and whose work has had a transformative impact.
A Distinguished Panel of Judges
A global panel of more than 100 judges—all journalists, including many past CCNow award recipients—will select the winners. This ensures a thorough and credible evaluation process by experienced professionals in the field of climate journalism.
