Fulbright Uruguay is accepting applications from Uruguayan professionals and academics interested in pursuing master’s or doctoral studies in the United States. It is a fully funded program that provides an opportunity to complete postgraduate study in the US.
The aim of the Fulbright Scholarship is to foster mutual understanding between the people of Uruguay and the United States of America through international education. The scholarship is granted through a competitive process, based on the academic and character excellence and leadership qualities of the candidates.
There is no application fee for Fulbright Scholarships, fellowships, and exchange programs. The applications are assessed based on academic performance, leadership potential, extracurricular activities, and commitment to the profession.

Requirements of the scholarship Program
- Citizen of Uruguay
- University/tertiary degree (4-year programs or more).
- No prior experience in the US.
- Excellent academic background.
- 2 years work experience
- Leadership potential.
- Proficiency in English
- Share the goals of the Fulbright program and the ANII.
- Written commitment to return to Uruguay at the end of the program,
- Express acceptance of the General Regulations of the ANII National Scholarship System
- In the cases of doctoral candidates, projects that involve research in Uruguay will be preferred.
Note- You do not need an English Proficiency Certificate for the Application. However, If you are selected, you will have to take the TOEFL and the GRE or GMAT.
The selection process includes:
1) Review: Review of applications by Fulbright Uruguay,
2) Academic evaluation: A committee is assigned to each area to evaluate the applications,
3) Interviews: The committee interviews the candidates,
4) Approval of the Board of Directors of ANII and Fulbright ,
5) Final approval: By the Foreign Fulbright Scholarship Board in the USA.

How to Apply for a Fulbright Postgraduate Scholarship Program?
The application process is online. The application package includes your personal information, academic documents, professional work experience, motivational letter and references. The applicant can propose up to three universities of interest in the application form. If selected, she will define with the Fulbright Commission and the administering agency in the US a plan that will generally include four universities for candidates for master’s programs and five for candidates for doctoral programs.

Now let’s discuss the Teacher Exchange Program 2024 for the students of Uruguay.
TEACHER EXCHANGE PROGRAM 2024
The program aims to foster the intercultural relations between the people of Uruguay and the United States and to enhance the quality of primary and secondary education in Uruguay. It will be held in the United States, in September 2024, for a duration of three weeks.
The program objectives are:
- To facilitate mutual understanding between teachers from Uruguay and the United States through an exchange and professional development opportunity;
- Enable teachers from Uruguay and the United States to interact with each other, with other principals, other teachers, students and community leaders; and to exchange views, best practices and innovative ideas from their respective educational systems
- Support the globalization of the school curriculum by providing opportunities for the wider school community to learn about global issues, be exposed to Uruguayan and American culture, and engage in joint collaborative projects.

Eligibility Criteria for Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program
You need to be a citizen of Uruguay and have a B1 level of English to apply for this scholarship. You also need to meet these academic requirements:
- A minimum score of 18.5 in your last computed activity.
- Minimum score of 81 in your last teaching aptitude test.
- A service record if you teach primary education, a qualifying board consultation if you teach secondary education, or a copy of the ranking list if you teach education training.
- You cannot apply if you have received a Fulbright or US Embassy scholarship before, if you have studied or lived in the US for more than six months, or if you have lived in the US before. There is no age limit, but priority is given to teachers who have less than 30 years of work experience.
- You will have to do a project to improve your teaching practices based on what you learn in the US. You will start working on this project during your stay in the US, and you will have to present an action plan at the beginning and at the end of it. If you are a Ceibal en Inglés teacher, your project should be related to this program.
- You will have to present this plan before coming back to Uruguay.
- You will have to report on the progress of your project six months after you come back.
- You will have to show the results of your project one year after you come back.
- Also, when you finish the program and return to Uruguay, you agree to help with any activities and/or workshops that the Fulbright Commission, the US Embassy, ANEP, Ceibal and/or the Ministry of Education and Culture ask you to do to share your experience from this program.
Specific requirements
To be eligible, English teachers must have at least 2 years of experience in public primary education under the program of the CHIP’s Department of Second and Foreign Languages.
Also eligible are teachers who are part of the Ceibal Program in English with at least 2 years in the program, who are taking the English course for teachers and have regular work in the development of classes B and C of the program. When filling out the form, they must select the option that says TEACHER CEIBAL IN ENGLISH).
Teachers who teach English in rural areas or in special schools under the English without Limits program are also eligible.
