Fully Funded PhD Positions At The Amsterdam Institute

The Amsterdam Institute of Social Science Research (AISSR) has announced some exciting opportunities for prospective PhD candidates. The institute invites applications for the fully funded (salaried) position. To have a diverse and exceptional cohort proposals are invited to cover the entire spectrum of social science discipline. 

The AISSR, part of the University of Amsterdam’s Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences, is a vibrant center of social science research, fostering intellectual collaboration and methodological diversity. It comprises 13 program groups across four departments, encompassing a broad spectrum of social science fields.

The opportunity allows the candidate to join the AISSR’s PhD program and also pursue their individual research projects under the supervision of the institute faculty members. 

Selection will be based on;

  • Individual potential to deliver insights, quality, significance, comprehensive plan 
  • Proposal align with the AISSR 
  • Diversity with distinct profiles, perspective, backgrounds and expertise
  • Shape the future of social sciences 

Duration of the program 

The PhD positions are temporary employment contracts with a standard 38-hour workweek, with a maximum of four years.Preference is given to candidates who can commence their PhD studies on or around September 1, 2024.

 Eligibility Criteria 

Must have a master’s degree or equivalent within the social sciences by september 1st 2024

  • Motivation letter: Explain your motivation for pursuing a PhD in the social sciences and your interest in the specific research proposal.
  • Curriculum vitae: Provide a detailed overview of your academic background, research experience, and relevant skills.
  • Research proposal: Outline your proposed research project, including its objectives, methodology, and expected outcomes.
  • Writing sample: Submit a sample of your academic writing to demonstrate your writing proficiency.
  • List of potential supervisors: Identify potential supervisors within the AISSR who align with your research interests and expertise.

  • Competitive Salary: PhD candidates receive a monthly gross salary ranging from €2,770 to €3,539, based on a 38-hour workweek.
