Gates Cambridge scholarships for master’s and PhD programs are open for applications. It is a fully funded scholarship for International students to study at the University of Cambridge. The scholarships are from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. It supports students with a strong academic background.
The scholarship offers funding for one year of postgraduate, Ph.D. and MLitt. It covers the expenses of the students so that they can study without worrying about finances. It provides financial support for the whole study period. The interviews are about your motivation, career plans, possible opportunities in the fields, and other relevant questions.
The Gates Cambridge uses a two-stage selection process, including departmental nomination and interview. Once you apply, the department will nominate you for an interview. The interviews are subject-based, and they take 20-25 minutes.

Eligibility criteria
- a citizen of any country outside the United Kingdom
- applying to pursue one of the following courses at the University of Cambridge:
- PhD (full-time or part-time*)
- MLitt (full-time)
- One-year postgraduate course (full-time), with some exceptions – see below
* For October 2024 entry, Gates Cambridge is continuing to pilot a scheme which allows applicants to apply for funding for a part-time doctoral degree (PhD).

- Graduate Course in Medicine (A101)
- Part-time degrees other than the PhD
- Non-degree courses

Deadline for Gates Cambridge scholarship
For US citizens resident in the USA: The deadline is 16 October 2024, with final scholarship decisions by 3 February 2025.
For all other international applicants: The deadlines depend on the specific course you’re applying for:
- 3 December 2024 for courses with early deadlines.
- 7 January 2025 for courses with later deadlines.
How to Apply for Gates Cambridge University scholarship?
The applicants can submit applications via Cambridge’s Graduate application portal. You can apply the following steps;
- Apply for admission to your chosen course at Cambridge, you will find an option for Gates Cambridge scholarship application as part of the admission application.
- Complete the funding section of the application, including your personal statement and research proposal for PhD applicants.
- Upload supporting documents, including your academic transcripts, Gates Cambridge statement and references.
