Eligibility Criteria for Jefferson Scholars foundation National Fellowship 2025

To be eligible for the Jefferson Scholars Foundation National Fellowship 2025-26, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • PhD Candidates: Applicants must be PhD candidates who expect to complete their dissertation by the end of the fellowship year or have a detailed two-year write-up plan. This fellowship is not open to post-doctoral researchers.
  • Participation in Conferences: Fellows must participate in two conferences—one in the fall and one in the spring—where they will share their research with the scholarly community.
  • Interdisciplinary Contribution: Regardless of residency, all fellows must actively engage with the interdisciplinary community at the Jefferson Scholars Foundation.
  • On-Campus Residential Visits: Fellows, except for Galambos Fellows with residencies at the Hagley Library will participate in on-campus residential visits at the Jefferson Scholars Foundation for up to two weeks.

  • Research Plan: 500 words maximum.
  • Bibliography: Up to 3 pages.

  • Op-ed or Blog Post: 750 words maximum.
  • Project Description: 1,200 words.
  • Writing Sample: Maximum of 40 pages.
  • Letters of Recommendation: Two letters required.
  • Statement of Interest in Professional Development: 500 words maximum.
