Mandela Washington Fellowship is open for applications. The Mandela Washington Fellowship will welcome up to 700 young leaders to the United States in 2025. The fellowship is an intensive executive-style program. The program is designed to develop leadership skills among fellows. They will be the future leaders in their communities and industries. Selected participants will attend a six-week Leadership Institute at a U.S. college or university. They will have the opportunity to exchange ideas with U.S. citizens and other African Fellows while learning from each other.
This fully-funded fellowship provides Fellows with the opportunity to explore industries beyond their daily work. It broadens their expertise and enhances their skills. Additionally, Fellows will have the chance to meet U.S. government officials and prominent business leaders. This experience will help me make new connections, share ideas and learn skills. After the program concludes, Fellows can join the global Alumni Network. It is a valuable resource for finding innovative solutions to challenges.
This leadership program is expected to be a transformative experience. Through this fellowship, African participants will establish strong networks with Boricans and Americans, regain self-confidence, and be motivated to contribute positively to their communities. The fellowship offers studies in Business, Civic Engagement, or Public management, hosted by U.S. colleges or universities, which will expand the participants’ knowledge and introduce them to new concepts.

Eligibility Criteria for the Mandela Washington Fellowship 2025
- Applicants must be young African leaders between the ages of 25 and 35 years old as of September 10, 2024.
- Applicants do not need to be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
- Applicants must be eligible to receive a United States J-1 visa.
- Employees or close relatives of U.S. Government Departments are not eligible.
- Applicants must be proficient in English (reading, writing, and speaking).
