Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Canada is offering fully funded scholarships for PhD research programmes. The course will start in May/September 2025. The foundation provides scholarships to Canadian citizens, and international students every year. Foreign candidates pursuing their research in Canadian universities can apply for the program.
The scholarships are for humanities and social sciences. Students with a background in Human rights and dignity, responsible citizenship, Canada in the world and people and their national environment can apply. The courses are not limited to these but must be related to social sciences and humanities.
The foundation provides $40,000 per year for three years to cover tuition fee and living expenses. Eligible candidates can submit their applications that will go through multiple selection stages. The registration started on September 9th,2024 and will continue to November 25,2024.
The program is looking for remarkable individuals in various disciplines. The scholarship focuses on students with a potential to bring prosperity to the world. The participants will connect with communities, academics and practitioners during the program.
Eligibility criteria for the scholarship
- Be a Canadian citizen studying at a Canadian or Foreign institution, or a non-canadian student enrolled in a doctoral program at a Canadian institution.
- Your work must be related to at least one of the Foundation’s themes: Human rights and Dignity, Responsible citizenship, Canada and the world, People and their Natural environment.
- Your field of study must be related to the humanities or human sciences of direct relevance to the future of canada.
- You must be accepted into or in a year one or two of a full-time doctoral program and expected to complete your doctoral program in 2026 or later
Application requirements
Basic demographic information: Collected for statistical purposes and used anonymously for reporting.
Language skills: Determines the language for your interview.
Essay questions: Provides insight into leadership experience and communication style.
Doctoral project: Describe your PhD project clearly for non-specialists.
Post-secondary education, achievements, and experience: Include education, scholarships, awards, publications, and relevant work experience.
Transcripts: Upload all post-secondary transcripts (exclude CEGEP for Quebec applicants).
Foundation’s policies: Acknowledge reading and understanding key Foundation policies.

Eligible candidates submitting a completed application by November 25, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. EST.

- Register for an account
When the competition opens, register on the Foundation’s application portal.
Do not create a new account if you have previously applied for the Trudeau Foundation Scholarships. Enter the email that you previously used and select “Forgot password.” - Fill out the application
- Respond to the questions
After completing your registration, respond to the questions to create your application for the 2025 Scholarship Competition.
