Romanian State Fully funded scholarship 2024/2025

The Romanian state fully funded scholarship program is open for applications. The scholarship is offered to non-EU citizens. The Romanian government provides these scholarships to students through the Ministry of foreign affairs. The fully funded program is for bachelor and Master courses. However, Phd programs in the English language are also accepted by the doctoral schools. 

The scholarship covers three study cycles in Romania:

Bachelor’s degree

For high school graduates or pre-university studies graduates with a baccalaureate degree or equivalent, or candidates who want to continue their university studies in Romania. The duration is 3-6 years depending on the specialization and ends with a bachelor’s exam.

Master’s degree

For undergraduates who want to deepen their knowledge in a specific field. The duration is 1-2 years and ends with a dissertation exam.

PhD degree 

 For graduate students or equivalent who want to conduct original research and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in their discipline. The duration is 3-5 years depending on the faculty profile and ends with a PhD thesis. 

To be admitted and receive the scholarship, the candidate must have the written agreement of the Doctoral Tutor, who must be a member of the doctoral school, and pass the admission interview.

Language of Instruction for Romanian Scholarship 

The Romanian state offers scholarships for undergraduate and master’s students in Romanian language. The only exception is for doctoral students, who can choose to study in Romanian or in another language determined by the doctoral school. 

The scholarship program arranges a preparatory year for the participants to learn Romanian language before starting their university studies. 

The following categories of people are not required to take the Romanian language preparatory year:

  • those who have Romanian study documents (diplomas or certificates) or study documents, school records that prove at least four consecutive years of studying in Romanian in an educational unit/institution from the Romanian national system;
  • Applicants who have pass the Romanian language test, organized according to the current regulations, to enroll in university education;
  • who have a certificate of linguistic competence in Romanian, minimum level B1, issued according to the current regulations, to enroll in university education.

Students from non-European countries can apply for the scholarships. 

Eligibility Criteria for the scholarship 

To be eligible for Romanian scholarship program, applicant must:

  • Submit complete application file 
  • Documents issued by recognized education institution
  • Enroll before deadline 
  • Good results in education, an average of the study years, for the last graduated school of at least 7 (seven) corresponding to the scoring system in Romania or the “Good” score, as the case;
  • Comply with the application submission methods 

Remember, scholarships are not for the courses of medicine, dental and medicine and pharmacy. 

Required documents for Romanian Scholarship program 

The following documents are required to complete the file for each candidate who wishes to study in Romania:

  • Copies of the diplomas obtained (baccalaureate diploma or its equivalent, plus bachelor’s, master’s, doctorate degree, if applicable) and their authorized translation into English, French, Spanish or Romanian, if applicable.
  • Transcripts of the completed studies and their authorized translation into English, French, Spanish or Romanian, if applicable.
  • Birth certificate (or equivalent document) and the authorized translation into English, French, Spanish or Romanian, if applicable.
  • First three pages of the passport or of the national document of identity and the authorized translation into English, French, Spanish or Romanian, if applicable.
  • Curriculum Vitae in English or French.
  • For the doctoral cycle, the candidate needs to submit a letter of intent containing the list of scientific works, specialized publications, the detailed description of the proposed research project, as well as the agreement of a tutor, which must be a member of the chosen doctoral school. Both documents should be in English, French or Romanian.

Additionally, some candidates may need to provide the following documents (depending on their specific situation):

  • Proof of name change (if applicable) and the authorized translation into English, French, Spanish or Romanian, if applicable.
  • Certificate proving the passing of the baccalaureate, bachelor’s or master’s exam, as the case may be, for graduates who do not hold yet the diploma and the authorized translation into English, French, Spanish or Romanian, if applicable.
  • Copy of the certificate proving that the person in the final year of studies is to take the graduation exam at the end of the school/university year

Deadline for the scholarship program 

The deadline for the Romanian scholarship program is 16 March 2024.
