Italy is one of the most popular study destinations in Europe. Over the years, it has gained a reputation for being an internationally friendly country. It has opportunities for the incoming students. International students receive the same financial assistance services as Italian students. The government offers scholarships at national and regional levels to international students. Additionally, the universities offer departmental scholarships for students to study for bachelor’s, master’s and PhD programs. Most students prefer to apply for regional scholarships for a high acceptance rate.

Italian government scholarships for International students 

The Italian government offers scholarship awards for studying in Italy both to foreign students and Italian citizens resident abroad. The scholarships are offered for the courses including:

  • Courses of higher education in Arts, Music and Dance (AFAM)
  • PhD program

The Italian Government scholarship includes tuition fees, health insurance and a monthly allowance. Students can apply for three, xis, and nine-month scholarships. 

University of Milan Excellence Scholarships 

The University of Milan Excellence Scholarship offers scholarships for Master’s degree programs. For the academic year 2024/2025, around 155 scholarships were available. The scholarship is worth 8000 euros. The University also offers 100 total exemptions from the tuition fee. The courses start every year in September 2024. The University’s financial assistance includes:

Universita Cattolica International scholarship 

The UCCS International scholarship provides an annual tuition fee reduction. It is offered by the University to support access of international students to the courses. It covers almost 25% of the total cost. However, there is a limited number of scholarships offered at the University. It is a competitive scholarship program. 

EDISU Piemonte International scholarship 

EDISU scholarship is for Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree, Single Cycle Master’s degree or PhD degree courses. The International students enrolled at the Universities of Piedmont (i-e. The Politecnico of Torino, the University of Torino, and the University of Eastern Piedmont) can apply for this scholarship. The scholarship is based on the merit and economic requirements of the students. Part-time students studying for a Bachelor’s degree can apply. The scholarship amount depends on many conditions. Non-resident students can be granted accommodation.

Padua International Excellence Scholarship

The University of Padua offers full-time scholarships to talented students. The scholarship is to pursue first or second-cycle degree courses taught in English at the University.The scholarship provides an allowance of 8000 euros and a tuition fee waiver. Partial scholarships are offered by the Departments of the University of Padua. However, departmental scholarships do not include tuition fees. The Padua International Excellence Scholarship has a maximum duration of:

  • Two continuous years for Master’s degree candidates;
  • Three continuous years for Bachelor and Single-Cycle degree candidates.

Bocconi Merit and International Awards 

Bocconi University offers scholarships for international students to pursue undergraduate or graduate programs. The scholarships provide full tuition and fee waivers. Students admitted to the MSc in Cyber Risk Strategy and Governance, Joint Degree with Politecnico di Milano, may be awarded the Cyber Partnership Scholarship, which is equivalent to a Bocconi Graduate Merit Award. Scuola Normale Superiore PhD Scholarships

Scuola Normale Superiore offers PhD scholarships to both students from Italy and international students for four years. These scholarships are offered every year. They cover tuition fees and a grant for board and accommodation. All students will recieve additional funding for their research activity, even abroad.

Arturo Falaschi Postdoctoral Fellowships

It is a fully funded scholarship program offered to international students. The fellowship period is two years, with the possibility of a 1-year extension. The Fellowships comprise a very competitive package including stipend, health insurance and additional benefits.

Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree FIPDes – Food Innovation and Product Design

The Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program is a fully funded master’s scholarship for international students.  JJ/WBGSP scholarship will cover the full tuition fee, accommodation, economy class air travel and monthly living stipend. The students can study in different countries.
