Women Research Fellowship Program 

The Asia Foundation has announced a Women research fellowship program for women researchers from Asia. The research fellowship program is for one year and it provides a $25000 stipend along with professional networking and skill development opportunities. It is part of the UK government funded research program Cross Border Conflict Evidence, Policy and Trends (XCEPT). The Network goal is to partner with local researchers based on the research they are working in the region.

The network conducts research in conflict affected countries such as Syria, Yemen, Sudan, Iraq, South Sudan and Afghanistan-Pakistan borderlands. This is an opportunity for female researchers to work in fields which are often male dominant and get very few opportunities. 

Fellowship Program overview 

The fellowship program period is 12 months starting from 20th March and ends on 20th March 2025. The program is looking for at least six female researchers in their early career. The grant is for original work and the participants must participate in networking activities as well as mentoring with experienced researchers within the network. 

The research includes proposal development, data collection, data analysis, writing, editing, peer review and publication along with presentation. 

Eligibility Criteria for Fellowship Program 

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Political Science, International Relations, Development studies or any relevant field
  • Professional research expertise 
  • Completion of at least one report or journal article of similar length 
  • Master’s thesis 
  • Demonstrate interest in conflict prevention and peacebuilding 
  • Command of written and spoken english to participate in trainings and activities 
  • Availability two or three days per week, participate in online meetings

Afghanistan, Algeria, Bangladesh, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, Kenya, Morocco, Libya, Tunisia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Yemen.

  • Gender and conflict, or women, peace and security in border regions 
  • Governance in unstable border regions 
  • Geostrategic dimensions of transnational conflict 
  • Climate change and insecurity 
  •  Economic drivers of conflict

Only shortlisted candidates will be asked to submit writing samples.
