World Bank Internship Program Objectives:

Internship Program Details:

The World Bank internship program is offered three times a year: Spring (March-May), Summer (June-August), and Fall (September-November). The duration of the program is usually 2-6 months (maximum of 3 months at World Bank headquarters or selected country offices). It is usually in Washington D.C and country offices.  Above all, it’s open to currently enrolled law students from all nationalities.

The World Bank Legal Vice Presidency offers law students an exciting opportunity to gain valuable experience through its Legal Internship Program. This program provides participants with the chance to:

  • Contribute to meaningful work: Interns will play a vital role in supporting the Legal Vice Presidency’s critical work in areas such as sovereign lending, investment treaty arbitration, and international law development.
  • Develop legal skills in a multicultural environment: Interns will work on a variety of assignments, conduct research, and participate in project teams, all while experiencing a diverse and dynamic work environment.
  • Increase their global perspective: Interns may have the opportunity to work at World Bank country offices, gaining exposure to international legal issues and cultural perspectives.

Eligibility for Legal Vice Presidency internship program 

  • Currently enrolled law students in LLB, JD, LLM, SJD, PhD, or equivalent programs.
  • Hold citizenship of any IBRD member state.
  • Excellent command of the English language.
  • Preference for students with a second language, especially Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish.

Program Dates:

  • Summer Internship Program: Application period: December 1 – 31, Internship period: June – August (10-12 weeks)
  • Fall Internship Program: Application period: April 1 – 30, Internship period: September – November (10-12 weeks)
  • Spring Internship Program: Application period: September 1 – 30, Internship period: March – May (10-12 weeks)

Application Process:

  1. Review the program details and eligibility criteria.
  2. Prepare the required application documents:
    • Résumé
    • Statement of Interest
    • Proof of enrollment in a law degree program and academic transcript(s).
    • Short essay responding to a research question posed by the Legal Vice Presidency.
  3. Submit your complete application through the online portal by December 31, 2023.

Please note: The application deadlines for the Summer, Fall, and Spring Internship Programs are December 31, April 30, and September 30, respectively.
