The Young Champion of the Earth competition is open for applications. The winner of the competition will receive funding of $20,000. The competition is open for applicants from Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, the Pacific, West Asia and Europe. Eligibility Criteria for the competition
The eligibility criteria for the competition as below,
- Applicants must be between 18 and 30 years old to be eligible for the Young Champions of the Earth competition.
- Previous applicants are allowed to reapply
- Only one submission per person per year is permitted.
- Minimum of six months prior experience working on their environmental project.
- The concept is unique, innovative, and has the potential for scalability based on initial research.
- Original Ideas
- Participants and winners agree to allow UNEP to use their names, photographs, voices, and related materials for Competition promotion.
- Winners of UNEP Young Champions of the Earth must provide proof of eligibility and sign UNEP’s release form to claim any associated prizes.
Not eligible :Employees of CoalitionWILD, other Competition partners, and immediate family members of such employees,whether as applicants or sponsors.

Selection Criteria:
The selection of applicants will be based on the following criteria, therefore, you must carefully read them and fulfill your application.
- 3 C’s: Assessment of qualities, including curiosity, courage, and creativity.
- 3 P’s: Evaluation of the potential impact of an idea on the planet, people and prosperity.
- Recognition of applicants’ efforts to implement the idea for at least six months, along with achievements and progress made.
- Consideration of the recommendation provided by applicants’ referees, highlighting the strength of their support.

The deadline for the competition is April 5, 2024 at 23:59 EAT (Nairobi, Kenya)
